OMT felicita a RD por establecer récord de visitantes en el mes de julio

UNWTO congratulates the DR for setting a record for visitors in the month of July

The general secretary of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) congratulated the Dominican Republic for setting a visitor record during the month of July 2022.

Through his Twitter account, Zurab Pololiskashvili said that with the milestone achieved by the Dominican Republic, it once again demonstrates its resilience.

“Congratulations to the Dominican Republic for showing that tourism can face great challenges and continue to grow. Its destinations welcomed a record number of arrivals in July. That means more revenue for development and opportunities!” the official said on the social network.
Record number in July.

The Dominican Republic continues to break records with the arrival of tourists receiving 735,064 non-resident visitors in the month of July, making it the month with the highest tourist arrivals in the entire history of the Dominican Republic, surpassing December 2021.

the minister David Collado indicated that with this new achievement it is projected to close the year beating for the first time in history the figure of more than 7 million tourists and said that this arrival of non-resident visitors in July 2022 represents 10% more than July 2018, a 24 % above July 2019 and 30% above the same month of 2021.

In this vein, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololiskashvili reiterated the solid leadership of the Dominican Republic in tourism.

Pololiskashvil said that the Dominican Republic is one of the countries with the best conditions for investment in the tourism sector due to its geographical location, legal certainty, solid political stability, among other factors.

“We at the UNWTO are recommending any investor to come, see and invest in the Dominican Republic today, because tomorrow may be too late and this is the moment in which the Dominican Republic has shown its leadership worldwide and we are very proud to be part of this history”.

The main objective is to attract, promote and retain investment in sustainable tourism in the Dominican Republic, offering strategic information on the business climate and the growth policy that this sector has during the current government administration.

It is recalled that the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, delivered on May 9 to the Dominican Republic, in the hands of President Luis Abinader and the Minister of TourismDavid Collado, a recognition for achieving “the most successful recovery in the industry”, reaching “record figures” in the arrival of tourists, while maintaining control over the covid-19 pandemic.

Despite these recognitions, the Dominican Government has decided to implement various strategies to continue boosting tourism and beat its own records, which is why last week President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado led the launch of ” Tourism in every corner”, the first platform for the promotion and support of local tourism, with a focus on sustainability and inclusion. The initiative has as its center the coherence between the knowledge of internal tourism products and the development of communities, thus achieving an iMacp.
