Ciudad Obregón, Son., Before the different voices among the political class of the United States that have announced that President Joe Biden will invite Cuba to the ninth Summit of the Americas, the head of the Mexican Executive, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, asked to wait and He said that it will be between Monday or Tuesday when the White House responds to his proposal not to exclude anyone from that forum.

Yesterday, in the morning held in Sonora, at the last minute the President accepted the question on the subject regarding a tweet by Republican Senator Marco Rubio with the following message: Biden is going to invite the regime in #Cuba to the Summit of the Americaswithout giving more details.

He recalled his position, asked not to go ahead until he was certain of the decision of the United States, although he once again expressed his confidence that his US counterpart has decided to summon all the nations of the hemisphere to the summit and thereby give the first step with a view to a new relationship between the peoples of all America.

He respects us, he respects our independence, our sovereignty. The president of Mexico has to adhere to foreign policy principles, such as non-intervention and self-determination of the peoples.

He stressed that in many cases principles are set aside. And he cited as an example the war between Russia and Ukraine. What fault is the population, who are responsible? Well, the leaders of the world who did not know how to avoid the war, exhaust the dialogue. What do we win with ideology, what do we win with dogmatism, with fanaticism, the peoples? They can win those of the elites of economic power, of political power.

Previously, the president once again highlighted the work of Mexican migrants in the United States and expressed his interest in returning to Plaza Olvera, in Los Angeles, the city where the summit will be held from June 6 to 10.

In this context, the President asserted the importance of Mexican migrants residing in the United States, who number 40 million, for both countries. He stressed that for the US economy it is very relevant, because there is no labor force; in addition to the fact that there are 4 million Cubans, which implies that there are many Latin American migrants in the northern country.

He regretted that political issues, such as the electoral one, are a constant obstacle for the approval of an immigration reform in that country; and announced that even when he respects US domestic politics, he will denounce candidates who attack Mexicans.

“We are very respectful of the policies of the United States, but we are not going to allow that in campaigns to win votes – in the current electoral process – questions are unleashed on Mexican migrants.”
