Councilman Ronald Soto, who had a business related to fishing, was the victim of alleged extortion and decided to close the establishment to avoid problems. He was taken to the local hospital for treatment, but was admitted without vital signs.
Ronald Soto, a councilor for the Un Nuevo Tiempo party in Cañada de Urdaneta, Zulia state, was killed on Wednesday, August 10, by several bullet wounds near the Christian church where he used to congregate and where he served as pastor.
Apparently, Soto had already received several threats to extort him but the councilman, who was dedicated to the fishing business, decided to close the establishment to avoid further problems.
Around 6:00 pm, the also president of the Municipal Council of Cañada de Urdaneta was approached by an organized crime group to shoot him several times and take his life.
The councilman was taken to the local hospital for treatment. However, he was admitted to Hospital La Cañada 1 without vital signs after receiving two bullet wounds: one in the chest and the other in the left arm.

The authorities of the Corps of Scientific, Penal and Criminalistic Investigations (Cicpc) in the municipality began the investigations, collecting the testimony of some witnesses present when the murder of Councilman Soto was recorded. The main motive they handle is the hired killer.

La Cañada de Urdaneta is the riskiest municipality in the Zulia region and the third most dangerous in the country according to the Venezuelan Violence Observatory.
