“The state of the bodies and the lack of ante-mortem data make expert reports difficult, especially with regard to identification,” said the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMELCF) regarding the fatalities of the accident registered yesterday in The Gualaca Plans in Chiriquí.
Forensic specialists assured that they will need information from the migrants’ countries of origin to obtain papilloscopic and/or dental records and samples from relatives for genetic comparison and thus achieve identification.
Very early this Thursday, at the facilities of the Judicial Morgue in David, work began to identify and establish the cause of death of the victims of the tragic accident.
The IMELCF highlighted that a multidisciplinary approach will be carried out that involves the participation of experts from the Subdirectorates of Forensic Medicine and Criminalistics.
They specified that the identification process will take time, and assured that, meanwhile, the corpses will be preserved with the due dignity established by international standards.
