University of Cienfuegos recognizes as an honorary doctorate to the rector of Granada

The rector of the University of Granada (UGR), Pilar Aranda, received the title of doctor honoris causa from the Cuban University of Hundred fires in recognition of the work to promote relations between centers of Spain and Cuba.

The University of Cienfuegos Carlos Rafael Rodríguez was the scene of the academic act for which Aranda became an honorary doctor, an act attended by the Vice Minister of Higher Education of Cuba, the rector Orquídea Urquiola Sánchez and the rectoral team of Cienfuegos, among others.

Former rector and professor of the southern institution Juan Bautista Cogollos Martínez highlighted Aranda’s role in promoting links between the University of Granada and academic institutions in Cuba.

The universities of Granada and Cienfuegos have had links since 1994, although it was in 1996 when they became official with projects such as the doctoral programs “Educational Contributions of Humanistic Sciences” and “Didactics of Physical Education”.

Currently, the UGR supports the training of teachers in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and in neurosciences applied to Education, important aspects that contribute to the achievement of smart city indicators by Cienfuegos.

Within the framework of Rector Pilar Aranda’s management, there are 23 agreements in force with universities and other Cuban institutions that guarantee the management of funds for the training of specialists and the development of science.

The collaboration of the UGR and the University of Medical Sciences (UCM), based on student and academic mobility programs and research projects, has had a favorable impact on the scientific development of the faculty and the Cienfuegos community, according to sources from this institution.

Among these projects, “Safe Hands” stands out, which emerged during the pandemic and which made Cienfuegos the only Cuban university with the distinction granted by the Andalusian Health Quality Agency.

Both universities are currently developing another project on the relationship between skin cancer and sun exposure.
