Teira explained that this bill arises after an agreement was issued in December of last year by the Fourth Chamber of General Business, which is the one that grants the suitability of lawyers.
The lawyer Edwin Teira, spoke this Friday about the discussion in the second debate of the reform to Law 9 of 1984, which seeks to regulate the exercise of the profession, whose renewal aims to modify access to the profession through an in-depth content test of studies to obtain the suitability.
Teira explained that this bill arises, after in December of last year the Fourth General Business Chamber, which is the one that grants the suitability of lawyers, issued an agreement (14-29), which reformed a previous agreement where it was established that in order to obtain the suitability it was necessary to take some kind of courses on ethics and fundamental rights, which it was not mandatory to pass, only to do them, so the results were not as satisfactory.
Now, that 14-29 agreement is illegal and you have to pass these courses, the requirements to obtain suitability are those under Law 9 of 1984.
“Perhaps we need to evolve a bit and we need to ensure that our legal professionals have this knowledge that has been certified. The feeling of universities in general is that it is necessary to have the exam as a requirement,” the lawyer remarked.
