Universidad 2022 socializes learning experiences in virtual environments

Different experiences of the quality of higher education in virtual environments focused the debate during one of the panels of the Thirteenth Edition of the 2022 University International Congress, which is in session starting this Monday at the Havana Convention Center.

Through a video conference, Dr. Marcia Vargas Hernández from Nicaragua socialized the educational experiences in the drive to take the University to rural areas of Nicaragua.

He pointed out that universities must train competent professionals, responsible and committed to social reality, who are not unaware of their social context.

“There must be comprehensive relevance. We are dynamic entities, we function as agents of change. Now we face not only the knowledge society, but also the digital society. It is not only a process of technological change, but also a profound reconfiguration of social processes,” he commented.

On the Cuban side, Dr. Marcia Noda Hernández, executive secretary of the national accreditation board of the Ministry of Higher Education, commented on the challenge that virtual teaching was for higher education during the most complex stage of COVID-19.

“Virtual environments have a lot of good, but also a group of complications that we do not fully master. In the Congress and in particular in the workshop we analyzed these issues.

“The COVID-19 pandemic brought us a group of problems, so it was quite a challenge to continue higher education virtually, because a group of technological conditions had to be created. Fortunately, in our case, we were able to implement variants and ways to teach online and monitor classes,” he said.

Under the slogan “University and Innovation, for a Sustainable and Inclusive Development”, the Thirteenth International Congress of Higher Education University 2022 will meet in the Cuban capital until next February 11 and in its debates it will continue to address issues related to the quality of the Higher Education and Postgraduate, university extension, the training of competent professionals from an inclusive and equitable perspective, as well as the university-company link.
