The meeting, which will take place from June 1 to 2, brings together the leaders and all stakeholders of the United Nations, governments, business, civil society and local networks of the Global Compact to take stock of the SDGs and present innovative examples. Under the slogan #TheWorldWeWant (The world we want), the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit this year will delve into the collective and individual assessment of the path to sustainability, from addressing global issues and trends to the resources and tools needed to accelerate progress in companies and organizations.

The summit, which will take place on June 1-2, is the main business meeting of the United Nations Global Compact. It convenes the leaders and all stakeholders of the UN, governments, business, civil society and local networks of the organization throughout the world to take stock of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and present Innovative examples of how multi-stakeholder partnerships are unlocking new business and capital opportunities while driving impact across territories.

Within the framework of the summit, the Latin American networks of the Global Compact have organized a plenary session focused on the protection of biodiversity, recognizing the importance for the region of promoting this area and its potential. In this space, Paraguay will be present with a member of the Itaipu Binational Board of Directors, Maria Antonia Gwynn.

According to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), around 60% of the world’s terrestrial life and marine and freshwater species are found in Latin America and the Caribbean. Protecting the region’s biodiversity is key to meeting global climate goals, and companies have increased this awareness through the development of relevant actions and projects in different countries.

Participation in the Leaders Summit 2022 is completely free for companies and organizations adhering to the Global Compact, while there is an entry cost for external parties.
