The NGO Foro Penal reported on December 18 that, as of Monday the 16th, a total of 1,877 political prisoners were counted in the country, of which the whereabouts of 27 people are unknown.
The Democratic Unitary Platform issued a statement this Sunday, December 22, in which they ask for a “Christmas without political prisoners,” and reiterate their commitment to fight for a “free Venezuela, peace and freedom.”
«Today we embrace every Venezuelan and, in a special way, those who have experienced the heartbreaking pain of loss, the suffering of separation or the injustice of confinement, simply for daring to think differently. We tell them that they are not alone. “Their desires for freedom are also the desires of all of Venezuela, a people that demands change and justice (…) Enough of pain, enough of persecution, enough of political prisoners (…) Today more than ever, Christmas without political prisoners!”, he demanded the PUD.

1,877 political prisoners
The NGO Foro Penal reported on December 18 that, until Monday the 16th, a total of 1,877 political prisoners in the country of which the whereabouts of 27 people are unknown. Between December 14 and 16, political prisoners Jesús Rafael Álvarez and Osgual González, detained in the context of the post-election protests, died in custody.
Since last November 16, political prisoners have been released, the most recent this Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21, reported the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners.

Despite the recent releases, a kind of revolving door has been operating, where there are more and more complaints from activists, politicians and detained or missing people; among them, three leaders from the Bolívar state, linked to Vente Venezuela and Voluntad Popular; former councilor Jesús Armas; the mayor of Cabimas, Nabil Maalouf; and the leader of VV in Chacao Luis Palocz.
