Unitary Platform on the Essequibo ruling: The entire country must join this cause

Unitarian Platform appreciates the support of countries to the report of the Determination Mission

Part of the Venezuelan opposition gathered in the Unitary Platform said in a statement that “the strategic value of the Essequibo must be the fundamental key to fight for the rights of our nation.”

After the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Venezuelathis Thursday, April 6, in the dispute with Guyana over the Essequibo, the Democratic Unitary Platform ratified the defense of the rights of the Venezuelan State over this territory and invited the entire country to join this cause and “that a group of experts of the highest level in the matter be constituted that firmly defend our rights.”

Through a statement, he stressed that the State must stand up for the sovereignty of a territory that historically belongs to Venezuela. “The strategic value of the Essequibo must be the fundamental key to fight for the rights of our nation.”

The opposition regretted once again that the current situation of weakness in which the defense of the rights of Venezuelans finds itself “is the consequence of a submissive foreign policy based on the partisan political interests of Hugo Chávez and continued by Nicolás Maduro,” he added.

For this reason, he assured that the new government of National Unity, “that we will achieve with the popular vote, will defend the Essequibo with a State vision.”

A few hours after the ruling, the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, said that “Venezuela will continue to defend our territory (Essequibo) in all areas, as we have been doing” and recalled that the country “does not recognize the judicial mechanism as a means of resolving the aforementioned dispute insofar as it excludes the nature and purpose of this agreement.”
