The opposition coalition demanded the end of what it described as a “perverse mechanism of gradual releases” and called for the massive and unconditional release of all those detained for political reasons.
The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) urged the Government to make public a detailed list of the people released from prison within the framework of the process announced by the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, after this figure reached 626 released, according to official data.
In a statement released on the social network
“The vast majority of these releases do not constitute full freedoms, but rather are burdensome precautionary measures,” indicated the platform, in reference to resolutions that, in the opinion of the opposition, maintain restrictions on those who have left detention centers.

In the same statement, the PUD announced that it will send its own register of political prisoners in the country to the UN high commissioner for human rights, Volker Türk.
The call to publish a detailed official list occurs in the midst of a release process that the Venezuelan Executive has been promoting since the beginning of January. Acting President Rodríguez, in an event at the Miraflores Palace, confirmed that 626 people had been released and indicated that she would speak with the UN High Commissioner so that his office “verifies” the lists of those released. However, as of this Friday, these lists have not been publicly released.
The lack of transparency in the process has caused dozens of relatives to gather outside detention centers in different regions of the country, demanding information about detained relatives and their release conditions, while non-governmental organizations have denounced delays and opacity in the releases.

The PUD also asked the high commissioner for his good offices before the Venezuelan State to achieve the full, immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, as well as to require the authorities to deliver complete official lists of released people, with their respective procedural details.
This call highlights the profound differences between the Government’s figures and those maintained by opposition groups and human rights organizations, in a context in which the process of releasing detainees for political reasons continues to be one of the main topics of debate on the Venezuelan agenda.
