Unitarian Platform supports union claims against Onapre instructions

In this second week of August there were multiple demonstrations in at least six states in the country rejecting the wage cuts imposed by the Onapre mechanism. Health workers and teachers were the main protagonists of these street movements

The Democratic Unitary Platform supported the claims of Venezuelan workers against the adjustments to the instructions of the National Budget Office (Onapre) —an entity attached to the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Foreign Trade—, with which they are now deprived of receiving the benefits of collective bargaining and violate their labor rights. In a statementthe group assured that it will accompany the different sectors that are in constant protest to demand the elimination of said instructions.

“Since March we have seen and accompanied public workers, health workers, educators, workers in the streets of Venezuela, fighting together against the adjustments made in the Onapre that violate collective hiring and reduce salary bonuses that are rights acquired by workers”, outlined the communication shared on social networks.

The opposition political alliance stressed that although the administration of Nicolás Maduro had to give in to street pressure and paid the teachers the recreational and vacation bonus in full and not in installments as it intended, it is necessary to keep up the “fight” —which is not “it will cease with a bonus” – to ensure that all the rights of Venezuelan workers are fully vindicated.

“This achievement of the teachers is an example for all Venezuelans who demand that our rights be respected. In a peaceful way and with street pressure, we have the strength to raise our voice,” the text summarized.

“From the Democratic Unity Platform we will continue fighting together with the workers, unions, sectors, civil society, for demands of all salary scales, collective hiring, repeal of the Onapre instructions, social and economic improvements, until achieving the definitive freedom of Venezuela through of fair, free and transparent elections, which will be the true guarantee for the recovery of the quality of life of all Venezuelans, “said the coalition made up of the Venezuelan opposition.

In this second week of August there were demonstrations simultaneously and consecutively on the 10th and 11th, led by public employees dissatisfied with the salary cuts imposed by the Onapre instructions. Protests were registered in the following regions: Amazonas, Guayana, Falcón, Sucre, Monagas and the Capital District. In the latter entity, demonstrations were mainly held in front of the Public Defender’s Office.

Since the Nicolás Maduro regime unveiled this Onapre mechanism last March, the claims against it have not ceased because it reduces salary bonuses that were acquired rights for decades.
