Unions of miners and factories of Santa Cruz prepare march to La Paz

Three mining unions and one factory union from Santa Cruz They decided to march in protest to La Paz from the town of Caracollo just in the anniversary week of the factory workers. The executive of the Confederation, Mario Segundo, minimized these marches at the Government headquarters and is preparing his protocol act with the Government.

“The workers of the different unions will march on Monday, May 16, 2022 in ‘the march for life, job stability and reintegration’ of the workers of the country, to the city that is the seat of government, asking for the immediate sanction of the short law of reinstatement of labor rights in the administrative channel, plus its regulations”, indicates the resolution of the mining and factory workers of the Santa Cruz unions.

On May 18, the Day of the Factory Worker is celebrated in Bolivia. and official acts of the Government are expected, which usually give a gift to the leadership of the honored sector. This year an event will be held at the Palace of Communications in La Paz.

The workers demand the reinstatement of their colleagues who were laid off in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the leaders, they went to court and won the lawsuit, but the businessmen refuse to abide by these court rulings.

However, the Confederation of Manufacturers in charge of Mario Segundo, minimized the protest of his companions and said that they are preparing the protocol act with the Government for May 18 when the Day of the Bolivian Factory Worker is remembered.

“We do not know that march. There is no call. Surely some colleagues are organizing, each organization is independent and can make decisions. We are organizing a protest march for May 18 (Industrial Day)”, declared Mario Segundo in telephone contact.

As in Santa Cruz, there is a malaise in the factories of La Paz as some factories closed and laid off workers. In other cases there were dismissals, which the leaders consider illegal and resorted to justice.

On Labor Day the Government announced the labor reform to guarantee stability for workers; however, to date there has been no consideration of this rule in the legislative committees.
