The Union of Trade Unions, a platform that brings together the country’s main business associations, expressed its position on the current situation of the state-owned company Petroperú.
Below is the statement he sent on the subject:
1. We express our support to the current Board of Directors of Petroperú, for its responsible and professional actions in the face of a critical situation in the company and we demand that the General Shareholders’ Meeting, chaired by the head of the MINEM, Minister Rómulo Mucho; and also made up of the head of the MEF, Minister José Arista and Vice Ministers, take a decision that allows a viable solution to the current impasse in which the company finds itself.
the country’s largest public company.
2. Among the proposals presented by the Board, we consider that conditional restructuring is the option that should be taken into account, provided that this process is carried out in a transparent, professional manner and without political interference. It is imperative that this proposal includes an exhaustive analysis of the measures necessary to guarantee sustainable management in all processes. In addition, it is essential that the changes in management minimize the injection of public resources and guarantee an adequate supply of fuel, especially in the country’s regions.
3. The lack of clear decisions regarding the future of Petroperú is worrying as it prevents the optimal use of resources, which could have been used to build schools, hospitals, roads, police stations, among other things to close the social gap. The negative results accumulated by PETROPERU, if not reversed, will mean a huge loss of resources that could have benefited the country’s less-favored populations. This is not the time for indecision; the country needs a prompt decision.
