River Plate, the last champion, lost away to Unión de Santa Fe, 1-0, in a match on the opening date of zone 1 of the Professional Soccer League Cup.
The only goal for Unión, which deservedly won the three points, was scored by Mauro Luna Diale, the star of the match, from a penalty kick 13 minutes into the second half.
