Unión Eléctrica de Cuba announces more massive blackouts for this Wednesday

MIAMI, United States. — The massive blackouts in Cuba continue today. This was stated by the Electric Union (UNE) in an update on the country’s electro-energy situation.

The company reported in social networks that the effects continue due to the fact that units 6 and 7 of the Máximo Gómez thermoelectric power plant (CTE), located in Mariel, province of Artemisa, and units 4 and 5 of CTE Diez de Octubre are out of service due to breakdowns , from the municipality of Nuevitas, in Camagüey.

According to the state company, this Tuesday the service was affected throughout the day. The largest deficit, of 653 megawatts (MW), was recorded at nine at night, although the blackouts continued in most of the country throughout the morning.

The Cuban Electric Union also indicated that the CTE Otto Parellada (Havana), units 1 and 2 of the CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez (Holguín) and unit 6 of the CTE Antonio Maceo (Santiago de Cuba) are under maintenance.

In the case of the Otto Parellada CTE, it is expected to be reconnected to the National Electric System in the coming days, according to statements offered by directors of that plant to the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The continuous repairs of several of the main thermoelectric plants in the country have generated an average thermal generation deficit of 422 MW.

The UNE adds that to supply part of the generation deficit during peak hours this Wednesday, 168 MW from diesel engines will be incorporated.

“With this forecast, an availability of 2,427 MW and a maximum demand of 2,900 MW are estimated for peak hours, for a deficit of 473 MW, for which service affectations are forecast throughout the day and tonight. ”, warned the company.

The authorities point out that in order to limit the blow to the residential sector “all measures to restrict consumption in the state sector are implemented.”
