Three out of 10 girls and boys live in households with insufficient income and, at the same time, have at least one basic right violated, with which are 3.7 million children face both types of deprivation simultaneously. This is stated in a report presented today by Unicef and made based on official data from the Permanent Household Survey (EPH) of INDEC.
“The magnitude and persistence of poverty generate the urgent need to protect budget items for children and adolescents”affirmed Luisa Brumana, representative of Unicef Argentina, during the presentation made at the organization’s offices in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires.
According to the report, there are approximately 8.8 million girls and boys who experience monetary deprivations or some of the fundamental rights considered in the EPH. Specifically, two out of every three girls and boys in Argentina (66%) are poor due to income or are deprived of basic rightssuch as access to education, housing, and safe water or habitat conditions.
“This situation, which reflects the hardest core of poverty, has been maintained for more than six years,” warns in the study called “Monetary poverty and non-monetary deprivation in children and adolescents in Argentina.”
