The National Executive Committee of União Brasil decided, this Monday afternoon (8), to expel and cancel the membership of the federal deputy and current Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino. He remained in his position as minister even after members were ordered to request dismissal from positions or functions commissioned in the federal government.
“The expulsion stems from a representation presented against Sabino, who remained in the federal government, in an attitude contrary to a party determination announced in September involving all members,” said União Brasil in a note.
Sabino said that he chose to remain in government so as not to abandon ongoing programs, especially on the eve of COP30, in Pará, Sabino’s home state.
“My exclusion from the party was due to the fact that I continued to help Pará, that I continued to work at the Ministry of Tourism serving Brazil, opting for the choice that I understand and the vast majority of Brazilians understand, which is the best project for the country, which is the project led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva”, said Sabino on social media.
The deputy said he leaves the party with his head held high and a clean record.
“I was asked to leave in 24 hours, with less than a month to go before COP30. I wouldn’t be so irresponsible in doing that,” he added.
In September, União Brasil gave 24 hour deadline for members to leave the federal government, reinforcing the party’s separation from the support base of Lula’s administration.
Pará Directory
União Brasil also decided to intervene in the State Directorate of Pará, which will now be chaired by an Intervening Executive Committee. For Sabino, the decision was unfair and wrong.
“They intervened without the Directory having committed any regulatory infraction, failing to comply with any determination of the party. It is an unfair and even absurd decision. The Directory was elected by regiment, respecting all the party’s rules and had a chain of succession”, said the minister.
