Manizales was officially recognized by the UNESCO, as a Creative City of Gastronomy, a designation that seeks to highlight its cultural richness, its culinary diversity and its ability to combine tradition and innovation.
With this title, the capital of Caldas becomes one of the three Colombian cities that achieved this recognition along with Popayán and Buenaventura. The announcement was received with enthusiasm by chefs, traditional cooks and representatives of the gastronomic sector, who They agreed that this recognition represents a milestone for the development of their activity.

“This recognition is the result of the effort to offer alternatives for economic development and new spaces for growth for citizens and visitors. It makes Manizales continue to be recognized as a high-quality international destination. today in the gastronomy sector and as one of the cities with the best quality of life in Latin America”, said the Secretary of Planning of Manizales, José Fernando Olarte.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network, created in 2004, brings together cities that stand out for their innovation in fields such as music, design, literature, digital arts and gastronomy. In this area, Manizales managed to stand out for its traditionculinary closely linked to coffee, its biodiversity and the creativity of its cooks and chefs.

Manizales chef Jorge Jiménez Londoño highlighted the collaborative nature of this recognition: “Manizales is a Creative City of Gastronomy before UNESCO, we are the third city declared, along with Buenaventura and Popayán. Thanks to the chefs, cooks, businessmen, traditional cooks and entrepreneurs.”
According to UNESCO, Creative Cities of Gastronomy have the capacity to boost the local economy, generate employment, promote social inclusion and promote environmental sustainability.
