The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) protected Venezuela’s right to vote for the second time. This decision was made during the 43rd General Conference of the organization.
“For the second consecutive time, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) has protected the right to vote of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, within the framework of its 43rd General Conference, currently taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan,” indicated a publication by UNESCO Venezuela, on its Instagram account.
In the post, it is explained that the national delegation delivered a report detailing that due to the coercive measures imposed by the United States (USA), the European Union (EU) and allied countries, Venezuela has not been able to comply with financial contributions to the Organization.
“By virtue of said report, the General Conference decided unanimously to preserve Venezuela’s right to vote and be elected in all subsidiary bodies of UNESCO, thus reaffirming the principles of sovereign equality and non-discrimination among Member States,” the publication states.
Likewise, he recalled that “during the 42nd General Conference (November 2023), UNESCO had already decided to restore Venezuela’s right to vote, recognizing the unfair nature of the financial sanctions.”
UNESCO Venezuela highlighted that this decision of the organization represents a victory for the Venezuelan people and all the countries of the South.
“This new statement constitutes a triumph for the people of Venezuela and the people of the global south who have accompanied and defended the legitimate right of the Venezuelan nation to participate on equal terms within the multilateral system,” he indicated.
