The program Transculture From UNESCO, financed by the European Union, seeks to recognize the creative talent of young photographers in the Caribbean. To do this he has summoned from Cuba to the Environmental and Landscape Photography Contest “Shooting Green”.
The contest aims to capture the natural diversity of the Caribbean region and highlight the environmental and climatic challenges facing the region, according to the Official Call.
The contest is aimed at young photographers between 18 and 35 years. Applicants can present a series of between 5 and 10 images that reflect the flora, fauna and representative landscapes of the region.

The call makes a call to explore, in a creative way, the relations between the natural elements of the Caribbean. In particular, works that address underwater biodiversity are encouraged, in line with the decade of oceanic sciences for sustainable development, proclaimed by the United Nations.
The contest also puts the eye in photographic ventures, especially those led by women and with social, cultural or economic impact at the community or regional level.
The winners, UNESCO adds, will receive an invitation to participate in a photography workshop in Cuba, as part of the International Film and Environment Festival of the Caribbean Greenthat will be held on the island of Youth in April of this year.
On the transculture route
With this call, Transculture seeks to value the creative talent of young Caribbean photographers and weigh their contribution to the understanding and conservation of the natural environment of the region, the organizers refer.
According to the representative of the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana, Anne Lemaistre, the Transculture program “opens doors to young people from the Caribbean cultural and creative industries.” The initiative has benefited more than 2200 young people from the region.
Transculture: Opportunities for art and culture in the Caribbean
In an interview with Oncuba Last year, Lemaistre said that Transculture “is the biggest project on the cultural and creative industries of the Caribbean”, aimed at young people in the region.
Asked about the election of Cuba as the headquarters, the representative said that the project has had Eusebio Leal as inspiring, “who had this dream for many years,” he said. In addition, he pointed out that the island has a cultural and artistic tradition of many decades.
Until then, Transcultura has organized 40 formations in fields such as cinema, fashion design, dance, music and cultural entrepreneurship.
