The data were released on Tuesday (30) by Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

At the end of August, the country had 6.1 million unemployed people, the smallest contingent of the series. The number of employed reached 102.4 million.

With this result, the level of occupation, which measures the percentage of people occupied in the age population, was 58.1%, remaining at the highest level of the historical series.

The number of employees with a formal contract was also record and reached 39.1 million people.

Labor market

IBGE research investigates behavior in the labor market for people 14 years or older and takes into account all forms of occupation, whether or without a signed, temporary and own portfolio, for example. For the criteria of the institute, it is only considered unoccupied to people who effectively seek a vacancy. 211,000 households are visited in all states and the Federal District.

Caged

PNAD is released the day after another indicator of labor market behavior, the General Register of Employees and Unemployed (CAGED), released by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) and that accompanies only the scenario of employees with a formal contract.

According to Caged, the month of August presented positive balance of 147,358 formal vacancies. In 12 months, the balance is positive in 1.4 million formal jobs.
