Unemployment rate closed in 2022 with figures lower than those registered prior to the pandemic

The Director of Employment of the Ministry of Labor, Daniel Pérez pointed out that the balance of 2022 is positive in terms of employment. In addition, he acknowledged that he aspires to improve the records, that the employment rate reached levels higher than those of 2019, the year before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. He indicated that in the first year of the Employment Promotion Law, it was agreed with companies for the insertion of people from sectors.

In dialogue with the press, he stressed that the employment data shows an important level of recovery. By the end of 2021, pre-pandemic recovery levels were reached and in 2022, although the figures for the closed year are awaited, it is estimated that the unemployment rate will be below 8%, which means, at least, one point less of what was registered in 2019, the last year without a health emergency due to COVID-19 and closure of the previous administration.

As for the activity rate, it also registers levels similar to those of the pre-pandemic and the employment rate is even higher. The hierarch added that, if the number of people with work is compared, there are currently 35,000 more than those who were employed in 2019.

He also made reference to the Employment Promotion Law, for which the data is auspicious. During the first year, similar levels were reached and, in some cases, even higher than those registered in the last year before the health emergency, which made it possible to focus actions on young people under 24 years of age, who make up the group with the highest index of unemployment.

In addition, he maintained that agreements were generated to provide more support to companies that hire people with vulnerability, such as people in homes in poverty, Afro-descendants, trans people, victims of gender violence, immigrants, as well as those who are in the process of reintegration into society.

The Director of Employment stated that these agreements generated during 2022 will intensify during 2023 and he plans to ensure that companies, through the available benefits, incorporate people belonging to these groups.
