Unemployment in Colombia reaches 9.5% in November

The Dane revealed that by November 2022 the unemployment rate reached 9.5 % compared to 11.5% in the same month of 2021. The occupancy rate was 57.4% and the overall participation rate was 63.4%.

The country, then, continues with a single-digit unemployment rate, which shows a significant recovery compared to what was registered in 2021. Regarding gender, the gap continues to improve.

For November it was 4.5% compared to 5.8% registered last year. There is a gap of more than 50 percentage points between men and women regarding the employment rate.

Unemployment is 7.6% for men and 12.1% for women in November. This means that women do not reach a single digit unemployment figure. However, the recovery of employment has been greater in women during 2022.

“The gap is closing again and we are returning to the levels that were presented before the pandemic,” explains the director of Dane.

However, the reduction in unemployment was 2.0 percentage points from November 2021 to 2022. The largest contribution is made by the 13 main cities with a contribution of 3.9 percentage points. Regarding the occupancy rate, there was a positive variation of 2.3 percentage points.

Along with this, the employed population increased by 1,219 people for a total of 22,486 employed people in the country. Unemployed persons decreased by 412 for a total of 2,361. The population outside of the labor force is 14,353 as of November 2022.
