Unemployment in Chile fell to 7.9% in the moving quarter between May and July, with a decrease of one percentage point compared to the same period in 2021, continuing the recovery of the labor market after two years of the pandemic, reported this Tuesday the INE.
Unemployment was reduced mainly by the impulse of “the commerce sectors (8.5%), manufacturing industry (9.4%) and households as employers (27.9%)”, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
In the Metropolitan Region, where 7.1 of the almost 20 million inhabitants of Chile live, the unemployment rate for the quarter reached 8.3%, a reduction of 1.2 pp in twelve months.
Chile closed 2021 with a record rise in GDP of 11.7%, but for this year the slowdown of the local economy has been anticipated, with growth of 1.5%. YS
