Compared to the first quarter of 2021, 3.1 million more people were employed in the first quarter of 2022. That is, there went from having 53 million employed Mexicans to 56.1 million employed people, between both periods.
The increase in job creation was concentrated in commerce, with an increase of 893,000 employed persons, in restaurants and lodging services the increase was 586,000, in various services 490,000 and in professional, financial and corporate services 407,000.
Of the population that had a job, indicated the Inegi, 5 million expressed the need to work more hours. This is what is known as the underemployed population and represented 9% of the employed population. That is, a reduction of 4.8 percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2021.
Informality levels are preserved
In the first quarter of 2022, 31 million people were employed in some informal sector; that is, in economic units that do not provide them with any type of social security.
This figure represents 55.2% of the employed population and implies an increase of 1.8 million people compared to the first quarter of 2021 or an increase of 0.1 percentage points.
