The country’s vacancy rate in the second quarter of 2025 fell in 18 of the 27 federation units and was stable in the other nine. The rate reached 5.8%, the lowest in the series started in 2012.
Compared to the 1st quarter of 2025, Pernambuco (10.4%), Bahia (9.1%) and Federal District (8.7%) showed the highest rates, while the lowest were in Santa Catarina (2.2%), Rondônia (2.3%) and Mato Grosso (2.8%).
The data are from the National Continuous Household Sample Survey (Continuous Pnad) quarterly released today (15) by IBGE.
Of the 27 federation units, 12 reached in the second quarter the lowest level of unemployment already registered by the historical series of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which began in 2012.
The states with historical unemployment minimums are: Amapá (6.9%), Rio Grande do Norte (7.5%), Paraíba (7%), Alagoas (7.5%), Sergipe (8.1%), Bahia (9.1%), Espírito Santo (3.1%), Sao Paulo (5.1%), Santa Catarina (2.2%), Rio Grande do Sul (4.3%) and 4.3%) Mato Grosso do Sul (2.9%).
IBGE had already announced that the national average is also the lowest already registered, 5.8%.
IBGE research investigates behavior in the labor market for people 14 years or older and takes into account all forms of occupation, whether or without a signed, temporary and own portfolio, for example. It is only considered unoccupied to the person who effectively seeks employment. 211,000 households are visited in all states and the Federal District.
