There are several educational establishments, both public and private subsidized, that are unemployed or on the verge of it, almost all agree on the same thing, terrible working conditions, poor infrastructure, lack of security, pension debts and minimum salary improvements.
All the officials, teachers and assistants of the Education of San José de Maipo, are mobilized because for months they have not been paid their contributions and other discounts such as health, compensation funds. Given the refusal of Mayor Roberto Pérez to receive them, on Tuesday, October 25, they will meet with the Metropolitan Education Seremi, Flavia Fiabane, to find a solution.
Months of complaints have been filed by the entire educational community of SLEP Barrancas about the malfunctioning of the Local Public Education Service, which brings together the Cerro Navia, Lo Prado and Pudahuel Schools and Lyceums.
To the poor state of the infrastructure of the establishments, another factor has recently been added, that of Security, since the premises suffer theft of their material and equipment, such is the case of the Puerto Futuro School in Pudahuel Sur, which suffered the entry of a mob that devastated everything. After a series of peaceful demonstrations, they managed to be received on Monday, October 24, by the senior staff of SLEP Barrancas.
The teachers of the Sacred Heart School of Talagante have been paralyzed for two weeks, given the null response to their request for improvements by the Board of Directors. According to complaints, the proposal of the private subsidized establishment, dependent on the San José de Melipilla Bishopric, does not contribute to the improvement of working conditions and is full of “small print”. During the week they left a letter in the Diocese of San José de Melipilla and are waiting to be received in a meeting by the Foundation.
81.1% of the members of Union No. 1 of Company Workers of the Primary Instruction Society, known as “the Matte schools”, voted to strike, that is, 840 workers, distributed in 17 subsidized private schools in 12 communes of the Metropolitan region. Although the strike would begin on Tuesday, October 18, it was suspended at the request of the counterpart for “compulsory mediation” that runs until Monday, October 24.
These workers claim because the last offer presented was classified as “precarious”, the proposal considers an additional increase to the base salary of 3% in installments, for a contract with a duration of 3 years. That is, the first year of 1.5%; the second, 0.5% and the third 1%.
For the President of the Metropolitan College of Teachers, mario aguilar, all these problems show a clear lack of oversight of both the SLEPs and the Municipalities, “evidently the Comptroller’s Office, Labor Directorate, Superintendency of Education and the Ministry of Education itself have failed. They all have different supervisory powers so that the system operates as it should, which has not happened”
The union leader added “When we see that there are serious budget execution problems in the Ministry of Education, serious breaches of regulations such as not paying social security contributions, when subsidized individuals receive their subsidy in the normal way and yet are not capable of delivering minimum conditions to their workers and their students, we do not rule out the possibility of a regional mobilization, due to the number of problems and the slowness in the solution”
