Unearte hosts the First Symposium on Neurodiversity in the university sector

On October 14, 15 and 16, the first National Symposium on Neurodiversity in the university sector will be held at the headquarters of the Experimental University of the Arts (Unearte) in Caracas, with the aim of building a more diverse and inclusive academic community.

The event will bring together specialists, teachers, students and institutional representatives who will debate public policies and good practices for inclusion, educational strategies and support services, as well as research and successful experiences of inclusion of neurodivergent people.

In an interview for the Buena Vibra program broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the general director of the “Mochila de Sueños del Joven Simón” Foundation, Fidel Oliveros, indicated that during the day the legal aspects that the national government has built to advance the university inclusion of neurodivergent people will be discussed.

He highlighted that thanks to these policies, today this part of the population has pedagogical spaces and participation initiatives that allow them to develop an academic career with all their potential and skills.

For her part, the executive director of the “Young Simón Dream Backpack” Foundation, Marerwin Carnevalli, highlighted the importance of this event to work on social skills for life, since these allow young adolescents to better adapt to social-emotional attacks, and “universities must accompany these students with these special needs, in this adaptation process.”
