The Undersecretary of Labor, Giorgio Boccardoindicated that the project that establishes a 40-hour work week will be a “priority” for the government of President Gabriel Boric and that they are discussing the “graduality format” for its implementation.
“This year we are going to work very hard on what is the 40-hour workday. That is an important priority,” said the undersecretary in conversation with Radio Bio Bio.

“We know that it is a demand that is deeply felt by the population, and therefore, we are also discussing at this time what will be the gradual format with which the 40-hour reform will be implemented,” added Boccardo.
“It is a government commitment that we are going to fulfill,” he emphasized.

After the appointment, he said that “there are many countries that have 40 hours. There are many that are over 40 hours. To the extent that countries advance in growth and in their achievements of development and productivity, of course people are working less. That is what one refers to when one speaks of the importance of gradualness“.
“There are sectors of the economy that complicate them, while there are countries that have them but have a lot of adaptability and flexibility, and that allows businessmen to adapt the system,” he added.
