The Undersecretary of Education ruled out that the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) has made the decision to withdraw Carabinero Day from the calendar of commemorations that should be held in public places. In this regard, they stated that “it is not effective” and that “it has not been included for years”.
According to the portfolio led by Undersecretary Gabriel Bosque, “This in no way means that this date will not be on the school calendars, and even less that it will not be commemorated in the establishments.“.
Previously, after disseminating the instructions issued by the Mineduc to the regional ministerial secretaries throughout Chile, in relation to the school calendar and the events to be celebrated during the next year, the UDI deputy, Felipe Donoso, and his fellow members of the Commission of Education of the Chamber, Eduardo Cornejo and Fernando Bórquez, accused that the circular “demonstrates the biased vision that this government has in educational matters, eliminating a series of commemorations that are usually held in educational establishments” and “inventing others that seek to impose the vision of the FA and the PC in other matters”.
Before the clarification of the Undersecretary of Education, Donoso, Cornejo and Bórquez, indicated that instead, “things related to gender identity and transphobia are made hypervisible, with non-sexist education days, in short, with subjects that seek to instrumentalize , with imposing on children and adolescents, issues that should be discussed within the home, instead of promoting respect and tolerance in educational establishments”.
Finally, Donoso, Cornejo and Bórquez announced that they would also officiate at the Ministry of Education to “explain the reasons why certain dates have been eliminated.”
