Undersecretary Monsalve responds to the National Prosecutor after sayings about forest fires: “More than the forest industry, the victim is the country”

The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalveresponded this day to the National Prosecutor, Angel Valenciaafter his statements about the forest fires that affect the center-south zone of the country.

To remember that the highest authority of the Public Ministry, after meeting with the executive director of CONAF, Christian Little, indicated that the forestry industry is a victim of these events after the investigations and causes that the agency has today. Although he specified that the end of the investigation will show the role of the foresters, in his opinion, they should be treated as victims.

In this regard, from the Palacio de La Moneda and after the meeting with the Committee for Risk and Disaster Management (Cogrid), Undersecretary Monsalve maintained that almost 100%, over 99% of the fires are caused by the human factor; Therefore, in his opinion, the victim of these events is the country.

In detail, the authority specified that the 24 people who died are compatriots as well as those affected by these events, so not only the forestry industry has been affected by the fires, but also the entire territory.

Likewise, the undersecretary reiterated what he had commented to the President gabriel boricabout the fact that, once the emergency is over, there must be a conversation between the public and private sectors to improve security measures in the area and prevent Chile from being a victim of this type of fire again.
