The leak of more than 400,000 emails from the Joint Chiefs of Staff continues to leave a tail. The fact was such that it caused the resignation of the head of the entity, Division General Guillermo Paiva.
In this regard, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, pointed to a “command responsibility” in the situation and that the leak was not timely informed to the Minister of Defense, Maya Fernández.
“As soon as there was a history of a vulnerability, measures were taken to protect the systems, however, when that information was received at the Ministry of Defense, the hacking had already happened and at that time the minister was not informed,” he said.
On the other hand, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, also referred to the fact, emphasizing that the information should have been delivered formally and in writing.
“It is evident, and this is being clarified, that if the vulnerability information was delivered after the hack, it is evident that not all the information was delivered, because it is not the same situation that an authority is informed that the system is vulnerable and therefore the political decision is made to provide resources to close the vulnerability; what was done, to the fact that he had been informed that there was a theft of information relevant to the security of the country; obviously this second did not It was done, and in a situation of this seriousness, also a situation of this nature, it should have been formally reported, that is, in writing,”
“The minister was informed of the vulnerability, but was never informed that the system had been hacked and that there was information extracted, reserved information,” he concluded.
