Three of the most violent criminal organizations in the world, the Aragua Train, the Sinaloa Cartel and Jalisco New Generation, are operating in Chile. This information was confirmed and ratified this Tuesday by the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve.
in conversation with radio dnathe State authority indicated that the information exists since before the current administration took office, emphasizing that “what happens is that the Government dares to say it.”
“The Public Ministry publishes a national drug trafficking observatory from time to time. The last one was in 2021. In January 2022 there was a debate in the Senate where the National Prosecutor went to present these results of the observatory. In that January debate, three threats: one of them was the presence of these criminal organizations in Chile,” he said.
For Monsalve, this makes one wonder “What is the strategy that governments have implemented to stop it? We all know that organized crime has increased its presence in Chile, particularly those dangerous gangs.”
“The question about the strategy is substantial: the national advisory council against organized crime has been set up, which is working on weapons and drug trafficking,” he said.
“We have included the Public Ministry, the National Prosecutor, the Financial Markets Commission, the financial analysis unit of the Internal Revenue Service, Customs. Second, we are setting up the regional councils,” he said.
“Third, we are strengthening the strategic coordination units, which are very important; there are three in Chile: Iquique, Metropolitana and Temuco, which provide quality information to prevent, but also prosecute criminal organizations. We are carrying out an acquisition plan to strengthen capacities of Customs, SII, the PDI, Public Ministry and fight against this threat. In other words, this Government has a strategy, “he added.
Comparing himself with Sebastián Piñera’s administration, Monsalve stated that when he took office, in his opinion the current “strategy did not exist”, and that “we have built it and we are implementing it”, he concluded.
