Within the framework of what will be a new vote in Congress on a new extension of the State of Exception, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli, criticized that the future administration of the President-elect, Gabriel Boric, declared that he would lift the measure at the time of their arrival in order to implement a comprehensive containment plan in the area.
in conversation with Channel 13Galli assured that one of the main challenges of the next Government will be the resolution of the conflict. “This violence is not going to stop just because of dialogue,” he assured.
On the other hand, he added that “they will also have to have legitimate forceful measures from the State to contain this illicit business that a group is taking advantage of in this environment of violence.” In this sense, Galli points out that one of the main security problems in the area is due to a “delegitimization of the use of force.”
“You have to understand this in its complexity, that it is not a single group or a single territory. I think there are some who want to delegitimize the State of Exception as if it were innocuous, I think what you have to do is ask the residents, to those who live day by day in the Araucanía region and in the province of Arauco if the presence of the military forces has meant greater peace of mind for them,” he asserted.
Asked about the possibility that the next government apply the same tools of the administration of President Sebastián Piñera, the undersecretary expressed hope.
“I think that there is a will in the Ministry of the Interior at least. There is a sense of State, when you know the experience that has been had in recent years, one quickly realizes that it is necessary that the State when it has to impose and give effect to the law, it has to do it, and it has to do it with the legitimate force of the State,” he concluded.
