At the beginning of the political campaigns, the names of women from different political parties were made known, who swept the media proclaiming themselves as “candidates” for the Presidency of the Republic.
This scenario did not last long, because they were dismounted “one by one”, leaving the position for men, and settling for the Vice Presidency among other positions such as the Legislative Branch; very despite the fact that the expectations were encouraging, that some day a woman could win that position, such as the Presidency of the Republic of Paraguay.
In this regard, we cannot ignore the change in evolution, regarding the participation of women in elective, appointment and/or trust positions, however, we still have as a great obstacle the lack of adequate mechanisms to overcome underrepresentation in the positions such as: the Presidency and in the legislative bodies, to achieve a balance between men and women, that is, equal participation, in which we continue to be at a disadvantage and a minority in relation to men.
In fact, it could have been a great opportunity, to have a candidate who assumes the Presidency, who leads one of the lists in the next elections, currently all those who presented themselves gave up their place, and did not dare to take the post to occupy the position. presidential chair.
Despite the efforts, in the fight for non-discrimination, and in the search for equality between men and women, in the same political environment, it is still difficult for us to uproot the macho culture, when we thought that it could be a great advance , a relevant stagnation where we will once again have to elect a male president and not change the history of our country.
In 2023, we will have the panorama of female participation within the lists, we also consider that this scenario is a regression, one could even say as a “significant regression”, by not having any candidate as the head and in a first position. Later we will see the impact it will have for women, we must be aware that there are extremely urgent issues to deal with, and that we need more representatives committed to their peers, who attend to and can put Law No. 5777/2016, and the IV National Equality Plan 2018 – 2024 (IV PLANI), about the alarming numbers of femicides, the 15 types of violence (which do not stop), unjust inequalities in all aspects, and in discrimination between men and women.
All women have as a fundamental right, participation and equality in all areas of society, however, despite the multiple roles that are considerably assumed in the condition of being a woman, it has been shown that there are no limits, nor lack of capacity, but rather more opportunities, and that we do not settle for continuing to be “underrepresented” in the most important areas, such as reaching the presidential chair.
Sadly, we lost the great opportunity for change, compared to other countries that were and are currently represented by “women” as the supreme authority of a State.
