Unapec invests Ray Guevara as Doctor Honoris Causa

Santo Domingo.-The APEC University (Unapec) invested this Thursday as Doctor Honoris Causa to the jurist, professor and magistrate Milton Ray Guevara, current president of the Constitutional Court (CT) of the Dominican Republic.

As explained by the house of higher studies in a statement, the distinction was made for Ray Guevara’s impeccable behavior, ethical commitment, personal, moral and citizen merits, adopted during his professional, labor and intellectual practice and for his significant contributions to life national.

“Milton Ray Guevara has been a leading player in the history of a jurisdiction that has become a citizen space and an instance of representative democracy in our country,” said Franklyn Holguín Haché, rector, in his order speech. of Unapec.

“Furthermore, it is fair to recognize firmly, which is only given by a solid conviction, he has affirmed his Duartian thought with authentic patriotism, defending our sovereignty, over and over again, from different scenarios,” he added.

He pointed out that “with his agile and elegant prose, this consecrated master of Dominican constitutionalism” has honored his commitment to the homeland, with the life and work of the Trinidadian leader.

As part of the solemn investiture ceremony, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra, dean of the Faculty of Humanities, read the profile of Ray Guevara, as a preamble to the investiture in which he received the symbols that represent the degree as Doctor Honoris Causa.

While in his words, Ray Guevara expressed “infinite gratitude to the APEC University for honoring me with this academic distinction, a House of Higher Studies that has stood out in promoting constitutional programs and has opened the doors wide to the initiatives developed by the Constitutional Court for the dissemination of knowledge of the Constitution”.

The ceremony was chaired by Raquel Peña, Vice President of the Republic; Elena Viyella de Paliza, president of the Unapec Board of Directors; Fernando Langa, president of the APEC Group;. Norma Rivera de Vargas, member of the APEC Council of Past Presidents.

In addition, Juan Viloria Santos, Vice Minister of Evaluation and Accreditation of HEIs of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), as well as members of the Board of Directors and the Academic Council of Unapec, made up of the vice rectors, deans and directors .

In turn, the ambassadors of Israel, France, Italy, Germany and Guatemala to the Dominican Republic met; also, the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice, the Constitutional Court, the Superior Electoral Court, the Central Electoral Board and the Chamber of Accounts.

The event took place in the Monsignor Amancio Escapa Auditorium of the Casa San Pablo, where state ministers, senior officials from the government sector, personalities from education and the national business community, leaders and executives of legal associations, the media, teachers and Unapec graduates, collaborators of the Constitutional Court, relatives and friends of Dr. Ray Guevara.

He is currently the presiding judge of the Constitutional Court of the Dominican Republic, appointed by the National Council of the Magistracy on December 21, 2011.
