UNAM files complaints before prosecutor CDMX for false threats at schools

This week, the university authorities toured that school to verify the state of the luminaires, aid buttons and video surveillance cameras, and meet additional failures or infrastructure needs. They also proposed more internal patrols.

These actions are in compliance with the agreements sustained with students. After this tragedy, they asked UNAM to reinforce school security, so the institution maintains dialogue tables with parents and students in order to meet their demands.

The community also denounced the false threats disseminated against the faculties of Economics and Chemistry, the Zaragoza School of Higher Studies and three high schools.

Regarding this issue, Hugo Concha Cantú, general lawyer of the UNAM, explained that the threats were disseminated through social networks, in pints in public spaces and leaves abandoned in the toilets. Although they were false, the university authorities applied protocols to maintain the security of the students, he said.

Concha Cantú assured that, in all cases denounced, the capital authorities have already initiated investigations while the university enlists three other judicial complaints. It will also carry an internal process against those responsible.

However, he ruled out that there are too many false threats. What happened, he said, was that they were shared several times in digital channels.

“This is important to comment, because it would seem that there are many threats, but in reality they are forwarding.”

Arman Plan to resume classes

From the homicide to the interior of the South CCH, some Schools of the UNAM declared unemployed due to false threats or waiting for safety reinforcement. Other schools suspended activities due to the commemoration of the forced disappearance of the normalists of Ayotzinapa and the Matanza de Tlatelolco, which is remembered this October 2.

In order for all schools to resume the face -to -face classes, the rector of the UNAM, Leonardo Lomelí, presented a series of measures agreed before the Special Security Commission of the University Council and reiterated that mental health services will be improved.

“What can lead us to a situation of greater security for the entire community is to persevere in care for mental health and emotional support to our students and the entire university community. UNAM is determined to give them this support,” he said.

The rector said that among the actions they stand out:

  • Consult on the schools for students to share proposals for strengthening school safety.
  • Increase in monitoring and patrolling within schools in collaboration with parents.
  • Strengthening of psychological and emotional care programs in coordination with federal and capital governments to attend to a greater number of people.
  • Courses, workshops, conferences, cultural and sports activities that contribute to strengthening community fabric.
