UNAM turns 114 years old
The National Autonomous University of Mexico was founded on September 22, 1910 as a national higher education institution. This event took place during the government of Porfirio Díaz, led by Justo Sierra Méndez, a historian, philosopher, journalist and politician, called the “Teacher of America.”
At that time, it was the National University of Mexico, since it was not until 1929 that it ratified its statute of autonomy. However, the institution has historical antecedents that go back more than 500 years.
In 2024, it will celebrate 114 years since its founding as a national university and provides education at the high school, undergraduate, graduate and various specialization levels.
During the 2023-2024 school year, its enrollment was 373,682 students and 42,615 academics.
