A group of teachers, administrators and students from the Autonomous University of Chiriquí (Unachi) who oppose Bill 756 that modifies Law 4 of 2006, which reorganizes this university, and modifies Law 12 of March 21, 2017 , which seeks job stability, a seniority premium and the option of reelection for those who aspire to the university rectory, continues to protest this Thursday, despite the fact that they were repressed by police units.
The protesters have asked President Laurentino Cortizo to veto the bill because it was not consulted, inconvenient, violative and that there is a re-election move in Unachi behind it.
The plenary session of the National Assembly (AN) approved this Thursday in the third debate the bill 756 that modifies law 4 of 2006, which reorganizes the Unachi.
It was known that it was approved with 38 votes in favor, 5 against and one abstention.
This project, which was presented by deputy Raúl Pineda, has been criticized for proposing the re-election of the current rector, Etelvina de Bonagas, for a period of five more years, and for its hasty approval in the second debate.
