Unab: “Ortega dictatorship strengthens state of terror”

Mónica Baltodano affirms that Daniel Ortega is a "more radical and cruel" dictator than Somoza

After the series of arrests and express accusations against some 75 opponents in Nicaragua, the Blue and White National Unit (Unab), considers that the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo has “entrenched the totalitarian and terror state that exists” in the country.

Since May 3, a hunt began for opponents who were detained in their homes, spent several hours in police stations or were transferred to Managua to accuse them of various crimes of “treason” against the homeland.

After being accused of these invented crimes and released, citizens have to present themselves to sign at a police station or the capital. The arrests have been accompanied by searches, theft of mobile devices and money.

“Spurious and summary legal proceedings have been opened against them, under the alleged crimes of spreading false news and undermining territorial integrity. Although many of them were sent home, the trials are still open and they have been forced to report daily to the Ortega police facilities,” the opposition organization said in an official statement.

“In the following days, the police have been carrying out “visits” to different Nicaraguan citizens and relatives of others in exile, in order to threaten them and warn them that they are police targets,” he added.

The actions of the regime, according to the opposition, “seek to consolidate the state of terror in the country and the defenselessness of the population in the face of the daily and flagrant violations of human rights. You cannot remain indifferent to this situation.”

Finally, he called for the release of political prisoners and called on the international community to be vigilant and not allow the human rights of Nicaraguan citizens to continue being violated, and to act belligerently against Ortega and Murillo.
