UNAB insists on opposition unity and international pressure against Ortega

In a first message to Nicaraguan citizens, the new Political Council of the Blue and White National Unity (Unab) insisted on the unity of all opposition forces and intensify national and international pressure against the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo to achieve the release of all political prisoners.

In the message read this morning, the political organization points out that they “keep their doors open for dialogue, with all the opposition forces that genuinely confront the dictatorship.”

«The international community, in the midst of the world crisis that is being experienced, maintains its attention on Nicaragua. This is demonstrated by the recent measures of the US and the vehement call by the European Union to release political prisoners, “emphasizes the document.

The National Unity explains in its message to Nicaraguans that it has “great challenges ahead, which the new Political Council assumes with renewed energy.” These challenges centered on five main axes: national and international pressure; accompany citizens in all actions against the regime; strengthen the territorial structure at the national level, allowing greater inclusiveness of actors.

In addition, keep actively listening to the voices of the victims, and take actions that seek justice, truth and reparation; and finally they will continue with the permanent denunciation before the international community of the repressive acts and human rights violations perpetuated by the Ortega-Murillo dictatorship.

The new Political Council was made up of Ana Quirós, César Emilio Gómez Cabrera, Héctor Mairena, Juan Diego Barberena, Lamberto Chow Padilla, María Laura Alvarado Zepeda, Marlon Enrique Caldera Balladares, Roberto D’Andrea, Violeta Delgado and Walter Enrique Orozco Martínez, all members of the organizations that make up the UNAB.

To this group of 10 opponents will also be added the names of four political prisoners who were part of the 2021 Political Council who could be re-elected for one more period: Tamara Dávila, Róger Reyes, Álex Hernández and José Antonio Peraza.
