The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has counted at least 1,842 civilian deaths since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The agency pointed out that of the total, 148 are children, while 2,493 people were injured, including 233 minors.
The figures, the UN agency stressed, are underestimated, given the difficulties in investigations on the ground.

“The actual figures are considerably higher. Information is missing from some places where intense hostilities have taken place and many details of the casualties are still pending corroboration,” the source added.
According to the UN, the majority of civilian deaths were caused by “wide impact area” explosive weapons, through heavy artillery, the use of rocket platforms, as well as air strikes.
The damages

The projection includes indirect losses such as GDP decline, investment blockage, labor loss, additional defense spending, and social support. During the 47 days of conflict, at least 23,000 kilometers of roads and 37,000 square meters of housing were damaged, destroyed or seized.
At least 277 bridges and flyovers, 10 military airports, 8 airports and 2 ports were attacked, Ukrainian media reports. Ukrainian refugees
Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) asserted that there are more than 4.5 million Ukrainian refugees who have fled their country since the invasion, which began on February 24.
According to the entity, there are 4,503,954 Ukrainian refugees, 62,291 more than the count made on April 10. UNHCR stressed that Europe has not seen such an influx of refugees since World War II. About 90% of those who fled Ukraine are women and children, and the Ukrainian authorities do not allow men of military age to leave.
The United Nations also estimates the number of internally displaced persons at 7.1 million, according to IOM data released on April 5. Mariupol under attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said tens of thousands of people were killed in Mariupol, Donetsk region, in the southeast. The president recalled that the blockade maintained by Russian troops in the town has worsened the situation of the inhabitants.

More attacks on Ukraine
The high representative of the European Union For Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell warned that Russian troops are preparing to launch an attack in Donbas.
