Through a statement, Unidad Nacional proposes “an international investigation with Bolivian observers” on the alleged links between the government of Evo Morales and drug trafficking.
Last week the case of Maximiliano Dávila, former anti-drug chief in the Morales government and linked by the United States agency DEA to a case of international drug trafficking and arms trafficking, came to light.
“The justice systems of two foreign states have opened a judicial investigation that suggests the possibility of these links, by directly implicating, in a possible crime of drug trafficking, a high-ranking Bolivian police officer who enjoyed the trust of staff of a former president of Bolivia. It is not the first time that a high-ranking official in the fight against drugs has been killed for drug trafficking, but it is the first time that this official enjoyed the arrival and personal trust of the president,” the statement reads.

In this context, the front led by Elizabeth Reyes has observed the formation of a mixed commission in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly to investigate this case after considering “that it is not credible, at this point, that MAS assembly members can impartially investigate the head of the MORE”.
“We believe that all parties can participate in this investigation, but they should do so with the rank of observers, leaving all the investigative work and its conclusions to be carried out by an international and independent organization,” the statement outlines.
