UN Mission warns that 47 peace signatories have been murdered in Antioquia since the Agreement, six in 2025 alone

Two men were murdered with a knife in Medellín in isolated incidents

The most recent case is the homicide of Jhon Faber Santiago Galvis, which occurred in the municipality of Cocorná, on September 2.

Two men were murdered with a knife in the El Raizal and El Socorro neighborhoods, in Medellín. Authorities are investigating whether the cases are related.

The Verification Mission of the United Nations Organization (UN) in Colombia has issued a serious warning about the deterioration of the security of the vulnerable population in it department of Antioquia. Of particular concern is the accumulated number of 47 signatories of the Peace Agreement murdered in the region from the signature of 2016of which six crimes have occurred so far year 2025.

The Mission also noted the alarming increase in threats, risks and homicides directed to social leaders and human rights defenders in it territory.

Meanwhile, according to data from the NGO Indepazthe six ex-combatants murdered This year they registered: three in April, two in may and one in september.

The most recent case is homicide of Jhon Faber Santiago Galvisoccurred in Cocorná municipalityin it eastern antioquiathe past September 2. Galvis was advancing his reinstatement process in that area when he was murdered.

For its part, the Corporation for Peace and Development (Corpades) denounced that, in the midst of this panorama of risksthe National Protection Unit (UNP) would be focused on weaken and dismantle the security schemes of all the threatened peopleincluding the signatories of the Agreement already the human rights defendersrather reinforce them.

This NGO also raised the tone of the complaint by directly pointing out the central government inaction: “And the most serious thing: the president @petrogustavo “He knows it… and he does nothing to avoid it.”
