The General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN) adopted yesterday, for a large majority, the New York Declaration, aimed at reimprorating the solution of two states: Israel and Palestine, which for the first time excludes Hamas.
The text, presented by France and Saudi Arabia, was adopted by 142 votes in favor, 10 against (including Israel and its key ally, United States) and 12 abstentions.
“In the context of the end of the war in Gaza, Hamas must stop exercising his authority over the strip and give his weapons to the National Palestinian Authority (ANP), with the support and collaboration of the international community, in accordance with the objective of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state,” says the text.

The declaration condemns “the attacks committed by Hamas against civilians” of October 7, 2023, and the attacks of Tel Aviv against civilians and the infrastructure in Gaza. Also the “siege and hunger that have produced a humanitarian catastrophe and a devastating protection crisis” in the Palestinian enclave.
Riyad Mansour, a Palestinian ambassador to the UN, declared that support for the resolution reflects “the desire of almost the entire international community to open the door to the peace option.”
Israel rejected “categorically the decision of the UN General Assembly” and indicated that it is a “shameful decision,” said the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oren Marmorstein.
The United States representation indicated that “the declaration is nothing more than another wrong advertising maneuver and disrepted that undermines the serious diplomatic efforts to put an end to the conflict.”
