Ultimatum of the Indigenous Guard to the Government: they prepare a day of mobilizations

Spokesmen for the Indigenous Guard assured that 28 departments of the country are on alert to start national mobilizations, if different agreements are not made with President Petro, in the meeting between the parties.

It should be remembered that the Onic was declared in permanent session due to systematic and widespread non-compliance of agreements signed with the Petro government.

“We view with great concern and reject the limited progress in the execution of the safeguards for the protection of the territory, our own government and the implementation of our own systems (health, education, justice, environment), the fight against change and the climate crisis, the difficulties for the construction of ‘total peace’ and protection of Human Rights”, expresses the Onic before public opinion.

Besides, demand respect for the free, prior and informed consent of the fundamental and inalienable rights of indigenous peoples, respect, abide by and protect the agreements agreed in the National Development Plan 2022 – 2026 ‘Colombia World Power of Life’.

The same way, The organization denounces the serious and systematic violations of the human rights of indigenous peoples, since to date there have been more than 500,000 indigenous victims due to the internal conflict since the signing of the Havana Peace Agreement, attacks by armed groups, confinements, murders, forced recruitment, displacement, rape, crops for illicit use, illegal mining, among others.

“It is essential to make it clear that we invite the National Government to guarantee the necessary actions to put our territories into operation as territorial entities, making our status as state authorities effective, guaranteeing our governability and institutional support”highlights Orlando Rayo, Senior Counselor of the Guard.

Agreements are expected to be reached with President Petro and his cabinet members, if this is not possible, the guard warns that it will continue to fight and if necessary there will be mobilizations at the national level.
