Madrid, Spain.- Cuban humorist Ulises Toirac He pronounced again on social networks On the critical situation that the country is going through, in a message posted on its Facebook profile where it warned about the “rare -raised atmosphere” that perceives in everyday life.
“There is a rare atmosphere. Perhaps a gray and rainy climate influences it, but what is certain is that there is a rare environment. They are not notified concrete measures aimed at promoting a change in the current conditions of the country,” Toirac wrote.
The artist referred to several of the problems that overwhelm the Cubans, including the rise of the dollar above the 400 pesos, the “almost permanent” blackouts and a “brutal shortage” that, he says, has exceeded the response capacity of the common citizen.
In its publication, he related testimonies of people inside the island who confess to feel “more uneasiness when electricity comes than when it goes”, due to the uncertainty of when the blackout will occur again. “Something absolutely absurd,” he said.
Toirac also questioned the absence of effective actions by the authorities to reverse the panorama. “Not even bad. And that terrifies me,” he said, referring to the fact that the public debate focuses solely on projects of the National Electrical System (SEN) and photovoltaic parks that “in the future would improve” electricity generation.
“The problem is that electricity is not eaten,” he ironized. In his opinion, while the client does not have enough money to pay what he consumes, any modernization effort will be useless.
He concluded by commenting that measures would be specified to eliminate the “subsidy” of that line, which is nothing more than the specific reflection of the entire economic absurd: people cannot pay with their money the energy development of the country. ”
With this message, Toirac takes up your criticisms open to government management, which On previous occasions they have earned him citations and warnings. His voice has become one of the most visible within the artists on the island in terms of public debate around the national crisis.
Energy crisis in Cuba
This Wednesday Cuba faced simultaneous blackouts in up to 57% of the national territory, the highest percentage of 2025 affectation and the last two years.
This new peak came a week after a National Blagboard “The fifth in a year,” that left the country 28 consecutive hours without electricity.
The long blackouts have fed social discontent and were linked to the main protests of recent years, including the largest of all, July 2021. The regime, meanwhile, has responded with repression to the manifestations of discontent by the electric cuts.
