The University of Los Andes (ULA) in Táchira has registered thefts and other irregularities since the beginning of 2023. In early January, the academic vice-rector of that nucleus, Omar Pérez Díaz, said that unknown subjects stole the window frames of one of the buildings
The Observatory of the University of Los Andes (ULA) denounced on its social networks this Friday, February 3, that the spaces of that house of studies in the Táchira nucleus have been the scene of several fires, presumably provoked, for three consecutive days.
Furniture, materials and infrastructure fell prey to the flames of building D of the ULA in Táchira; which was attended by the entity’s firefighters and Civil Protection officials using water hoses and manual techniques to prevent its spread.

In this sense, the academic vice-rector of the ULA nucleus of Tachira, Omar Pérez Díaz, asked the security organizations to investigate the acts of vandalism that have occurred on the campus in recent weeks, reported The Cooperator.
Pérez Díaz had denounced at the beginning of January 2023 that, once classes started, they realized that that house of studies was visited again by crime during the December holidays.
The vice-chancellor warned that unknown subjects took the frames and glass from several windows of building A, as well as said that they had destroyed some other property. He also accused that the criminals took a chair and used a public bus to flee with the stolen object.
He requested help from the entity’s governor, Freddy Bernal; to the mayor of San Cristóbal, Silfredo Zambrano and to the security forces in the entity to take more forceful measures against crime and protect the spaces of the ULA, referring that this situation has been going on for a long time.
Autonomous universities have been left unprotected in recent years, leading to a rise in crime at their facilities. Recent examples of this have been the nucleus of the Central University of Venezuela in the state of Aragua and the nucleus in the state of Sucre of the Universidad de Oriente.
