Ukrainian clubs decide to end the league without a champion

The Ukrainian clubs, meeting on Tuesday in general assembly, decided to end the football season early, suspended since February due to the Russian invasion, without awarding the title of champion.

“The classification as of February 24, 2022 will be the final classification of the 2021-2022 seasonbut the title will not be awarded,” the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) reported on its website.

“This decision will be submitted to the executive committee of the Ukrainian Football Federation“, specified the UPL.

Shakhtar Donetsk, leaders of the championship at the time of suspensionwill not get the title, but will inherit the qualifying place for the next Champions League, like Dynamo kyiv, second.

The invasion of Ukraine initiated by the Russian army on February 24 prevented the resumption of the championship after the winter truce and has forced the players of the main clubs, especially foreigners, to leave the country.
